Maintaining a Course Website
I believe I would use and maintain a course website as a teacher. I believe it is very helpful for all parties. For example, parents are able to stay up to date on all course work and activities that are happening in both the classroom and school in general. Teachers will be able to post announcements to the class as a whole rather than reaching out to each family individually. As for students, they are able to have all of their work at the click of a button. As a child, you often forget what you have to do that night. This will make it easy and hassle free.

As helpful as I think these websites are, I do not think they are at all necessary. I survived all of my schooling without one of my teachers having their own website. However, with the influx of technology, I do believe they will become more important in the future and may become worth the time and trouble.

Importance of Technology
Technology has become a very important part of not only a classroom, but the world and the ways in which we communicate. When I envision my own classroom website, I would include all of the content listed in the reading. Having a calendar, homework information, topic resources, etc. are all very important to having a successful classroom. This is helpful in that it is bringing the information the children are learning at school to the home. Parents will be able to be kept up to date, and children could use it to stay on task and complete their assignments on time. Aside from the classroom website, I could also see myself using technology to communicate and collaborate with other teachers and professional. As we have seen from this class, twitter can be very beneficial to one’s communication. There are many different teacher pages with tips, lesson plans, and motivation to get you through the day.

Web Evaluation Skills
I enjoyed creating the web evaluation in that it helped me to better understand my standards for teaching and what I would consider acceptable to present to the students. If I could go back, I would look for different teaching tools and articles. I really liked the ones I picked and felt they were easily understandable to my classroom age. However, when filling out the evaluation form, many of my credentials were not met. This confused me in that I thought the sources were very good and I also thought my credential list was not asking too much. So, I will take my evaluation form with me and will definitely think back to it when creating lesson plans in the future. But, as time progresses, I can see myself making changes to the evaluation form.

  1. Hayley,
I really like how you did your Web Evaluation. Nice job! I also said the same thing about using a course website how you mentioned it is a simple way to keep everyone up to date. I like how you mentioned technology helping students and teachers when it comes to timeliness. I had never thought about this point, but it is very valid. It is interesting how you said websites are helpful, but you can do without them and you relate it to your personal experiences. Cool!

  3. Great P.O.V. on course sites for instructors! Not necessary, but beneficial is what I've found to be the case with a lot of new instructional tools. Also loved your web eval and the aspects of it. Very eye catching and thought provoking for the students. Loved reading your blog!

  4. I really enjoyed reading your post! Your WebEval is also great. It looks like you put a lot of time into it. I also think it's important to see that you noted, that you will be changing the credentials of your WebEval as time goes on but that you will use it in the future! I also agree with you about your comment on the classroom websites. They are useful but I have never used one in my career as a student and it also is a bit consuming to keep up with!

  6. Hayley,

You brought up a great point about how website are not necessary. A lot of students do not have access to one and still were able to succeed in school. I think it is a great supplement to the classroom and can be very helpful, but like you mention it isn't a necessity. Great post!
